A Guide to Choosing the Right Dress Coat

dresscoats.jpg

When it comes to dress coats, most men don't think to consider going with a custom option. However, just like custom suits, a custom overcoat can provide many benefits to the wearer. Oftentimes, perfect-fitting mens clothes can be difficult to find. Wearing the wrong size or fit of clothing may lead men to look unprofessional and sloppy. But by choosing to have a custom overcoat made, men can ensure they have a high-quality article of clothing to last them for years to come. So if you're looking for a new dress coat, consider this guide when choosing the elements to make up your coat.

Fabric: If you plan to keep and wear your new dress coat throughout the upcoming years, then it's important to get a coat made of high-quality material. A general rule of thumb is to pick durable, heavier fabrics, like wool, since heavier coats tend to last longer. With the high quality of custom clothing, you won't have to worry about sacrificing comfort or style when it comes to choosing a fabric.

Length: Today, the average length for an overcoat is about knee-length. By choosing a longer coat length, you can ensure your clothing underneath with remain protected as well as ensuring your warmth even on the coldest of days.

Sleeves: It's important to remember that the sleeves of your overcoat should not be any shorter than about an inch past your suit jacket underneath. With this sleeve length, you can ensure there won't be a gap between your coat sleeve and your gloves when you wear them.

Style: When it comes to choosing the style of dress coats, it's completely up to you. However, it is important to remember to keep in mind formality and warmth when choosing the style of your coat. For example, a double-breasted peak lapel overcoat tends to look a little more formal and keeps the wearer warm with two layers of fabric over the chest.

Fit: When getting fitted for dress coats, it's important to wear a mens dress shirt and jacket underneath. In doing this, you will be able to see how the coat fits on top of these clothes. Like the style, the fit is up to you. But it is crucial that you don't get dress coats that fit too tightly or too loosely, otherwise you will look sloppy.

When looking for a new overcoat, you should consider that a dress coat can last for many, many years. Because of this, you should choose to have one custom-made to make sure you get exactly what you want.

Factors to Consider Before Buying Your First Custom Suit: Part 1

tailoredsuits.jpg

According to recent psychology studies, first impressions are formed within just seven to 17 seconds of meeting someone. Furthermore, 55% of a person's first impression is influenced by physical appearance alone. With this knowledge, it's important to understand the significance of your clothing. And when it comes to getting the best mens clothes, there's no better choice than tailored suits. In this two-part series, we're going to discuss some of the factors men should consider before investing in custom clothing.

Make fabric choice a priority
One of the most important decisions you will make regarding your custom tailored suits is the fabric. While there are multiple different styles to choose from, the fabric is the foundation that the rest of the suit is made on. So not only does your fabric choice determine how the suit is going to look and feel, it will also dictate how it performs and lasts over time. Because of this, it's important to choose a high-quality fabric that will provide a good combination of durability and luxury.

Details matter
Besides fabric, there are multiple other details you'll need to decide on regarding tailored suits. Some important details to remember are:

  • Print: If you decide to choose a printed fabric for your suit, it's important to choose a subtle option to not have your suit overwhelm you.

  • Buttons: While people usually choose one or two buttons for modern mens suits, the number of buttons you choose for your suit will depend on what option is best for your body type.

  • Lining: The lining in a suit not only protects the suit, but it also provides an opportunity for showing off a splash of color on an otherwise modest suit.

  • Lapels: Your choice of lapels can make a big difference in how the overall suit looks. Thicker lapels can be seen as more traditional while thinner lapels are a little more modern.

Consider your body's condition
Do you plan on losing a mass amount of weight in the near future? If so, you may want to consider waiting to get fitted for your new suit. While one of the great things about custom suits is that they can be fitted to your exact body shape, it's important to consider what kind of condition your body is in right now. If you have plans for losing weight, gaining weight, or gaining muscle, it's important to take this into consideration when planning to get your suit.

In part two of this series, we're going to look at some other important considerations to make regarding custom clothing.

Essential Winter Clothing for Men

mensclothes.jpg

Hopefully, you're well prepared for the bitter cold months that lie ahead of us. If not, it's time you start prepping your closet. While your lighter fabric mens clothes may be stylish, it won't do much to keep you warm in the upcoming months. Because of this, you need to ensure you have winter-ready apparel. In this article, we will discuss a few essential pieces of mens clothes you should have in your closet for winter.

  1. A parka: A heavy duty, winter-weather ready parka is more than necessary when it comes to choosing winter mens clothes. Whether you're walking to the store or darting from your car into a building, you're going to be outside at some point this winter. And when that happens, you shouldn't let the bitter cold make you miserable. With a down-filled parka, you'll barely notice it's cold out.

  2. Dark-wash jeans: Just like how the day is staying darker longer, so should your jeans. Dark jeans are perfect for the winter weather and you should consider choosing a heavier fabric as well.

  3. A wool hat: Keeping your head and ears warm should be a top priority this winter. By having a wool hat, or even a stylish beanie, on hand is an easy way to ensure your noggin stays toasty even when the temperature hits single digits.

  4. Winter boots: If you don't already have a reliable pair of winter boots, it's about time you invest in one. No matter if there's snow, freezing rain, or just plain ice, you should be prepared for whatever the weather decides to throw at you this season.

  5. A wool overcoat: While parkas and other jackets are designed to keep you warm, they may not be appropriate to wear with mens dress clothes to work or special events. Because of this, you may want to invest in a wool peacoat or top coat. In fact, 100% wool overcoats are said to be the warmest and most durable. Wool dress coats will not only keep you warm but will also keep you looking stylish when you need to.

  6. A heavier suit: If you're winterizing the rest of your closet, you shouldn't leave out your suits. Most mens suits are made with a lighter fabric, making them ideal to wear when the weather is warm. However, you may want to invest in tailored suits for with winter weather. By working with a tailor to design custom suits, you can not only pick out the style and colors, but also the materials. You should consider choosing materials like wool, flannel, or tweed.

Even though winter is cold, that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your sense of style. There are plenty of stylish articles of clothing that will also keep you warm. By simply swapping out your summer styles for heavier-fabric options, you'll be sure to stay warm all winter long.

Hesitant About Choosing Custom Suits? Debunking These 3 Myths Will Change Your Mind

menssuits.jpg

Do you have an important job interview coming up? Or a fancy wedding to attend? Well, no matter the reason, having a well-fitted suit is key to dressing to impress. Because of this, a custom tailored suit is the way to go. Not only will you look good, but you'll feel good in your personalized clothing. Unfortunately, there are many misconceptions regarding custom clothing that can cause men to feel inclined to purchase off the rack. But this article is going to look at some common myths about custom suits to help ease your concerns.

Myth: The quality of custom clothing is the same as those off the rack.

Fact: This may be the biggest myth about custom mens suits out there. When it comes down to it, you simply can't compare a suit that was made specifically for you to a suit that was designed and produced in mass quantities. A professional tailor will provide an unbeatable level of quality. Because you can choose the fabrics, style, and colors for your custom suits, your suit will get personalized care and attention. Tailored suits are crafted with great attention to detail, meaning they will be flawless compared to a suit you would normally get off the rack.

Myth: A looser fit suit is more comfortable.

Fact: Many men think that mens dress clothes are more comfortable if they have a looser fitting; however, mens clothes that are too tight or too loose will not only be uncomfortable, they will look bad. Ill-fitting mens suits can make the wearer look sloppy and unprofessional. On the other hand, custom tailored suits are designed to fit each unique body without being uncomfortable. Tailors are experienced enough to know important fitting information, like that about two centimeters of a men's shirt collar should be shown by the suit jacket collar.

Myth: Custom clothing is only for men who don't fit in off the rack clothes.

Fact: Unfortunately, bodies don't always stay the same shape and size. And as a body changes, so does the way a suit fits. Generally, it's going to be difficult to have an off the rack suit altered properly to fit your new body. This will lead to you having to purchase another suit. However, custom mens suits are designed to fit changing body shapes and can be easily altered to fit your body. Because of this, you'll get many years out of your custom suit.

A custom suit can make you look professional and polished. It will not only save you money in the long run, but it can also save you the wasted time and frustration that can come with trying to find a suit off the rack that fits you perfectly.

Winter Wardrobes Worth Wearing: 3 Ways To Wear A Topcoat

designer suits

According to a recent fashion study, up to 55% of men between the ages of 25 and 35 owned three or more suits. This is because designer suits make the man and fewer things can make as bold of a statement as custom clothing.

However, with winter on the way, you now have to calculate how dress coats will factor into your everyday wardrobe. There are various kinds of dress coats Treat's Squire Shop has to offer: workwear jackets, pea coats, and toggle coats. Yet no dress coat is as well-suited to the well-dressed man's winter wardrobe than the topcoat.

The versatility of a tailored topcoat
Pea coats and toggle coats work well with mens clothing, but they're not all that versatile. That is, a pea coat may be too short when it comes to staying warm in designer suits whereas a toggle coat may be seen as too casual for the workplace. The topcoat, on the other hand, offers plenty of layering ability even with designer suits and it's perfectly capable of keeping you warm no matter the weather.

Need more proof of the topcoat's versatility? Consider these three ways to wear a topcoat this winter season:

  1. All dressed up and nowhere to snow. One of the classiest ways to wear a topcoat is over a gray flannel suit and a heavily-textured tie. The flannel suit will help keep you warm during those chilly date nights while the texture of the tie gives a little pizzazz. Compliment your attire with a pocket square the same color of your topcoat and finish off the outfit with a pair of black classy boots.

  2. Keeping it casual at the holiday party. For a more casual look that's still work-worthy for your company's holiday bash, consider a crewneck sweater and a nice button down. A pair of dark denim jeans and nice leather sneakers or boots class it up while keeping it casual. A watch with an olive strap or another neutral tone will play with the neutral colors of the shirt and pants.

  3. The most colorful time of the year. Playing with colors, especially during the winter when the sky is drab, is always a pleasure. Consider using burgundy as the base color for your outfit. A burgundy sweater paired with a chambray button-down and dark denim jeans will keep you looking stylishly textured, but also warm. Add a pair of chukka boots and you're ready to roll.

Any man can look impressive in custom clothing and tailored suits. However, only you can work your wardrobe the way you do. Take a look at the dress coats at Treats Square Shop today to see how you can stay warm and stylish this winter season.

4 Benefits of Custom Clothing for Men

One one hand, the term "custom clothing" can evoke images of expensive, unnecessary clothing. On the other hand, custom clothing can be seen as an opportunity to invest in clothing that will fit your body perfectly, last for years, and allow you to express your unique style. If you're still on the fence about custom clothing, read these few benefits of having your clothing custom-made.

Dress Code Breakdown: Making Sure You Look Suitable for Your Next Social Event

mensdress.jpg

With ever-changing fashion rules, it can be pretty hard to tell what's appropriate to wear to certain events. When most people hear the term "dress code", they're likely to think of workplace attire. But that's not the only place that requires a certain type of attire. If you have a big event coming up with very vague dress code requirements, you need to know specifics. Read on to figure out what each dress code entails.

Formal/White Tie: Unfortunately, "formal attire" is often misunderstood. While most men think it means suits and ties, it actually entails mens dress clothes that most men might not even own. Formal wear for men means a tuxedo type of dress coats and vest for mornings and day events, and a white tie for an evening event. White tie events are usually held for diplomatic events, but if you're lucky enough to be invited to one, then you should expect it to be very fancy. In fact, you'll most likely have to rent mens clothes for the occasion.

Semi-Formal/Black Tie: The word "semi" does not mean much in this case. Semi-formal is most likely the strictest dress code you will come across in your lifetime. In the evening, semi-formal requires a tuxedo while a morning event requires a stroller, which is a relaxed alternative to formal morning mens dress.

Business Dress Code: Business means matched mens suits. For most occasions, a dark, solid colored suit paired with a white dress shirt, tie, and dress shoes will be appropriate. On the other hand, light gray or brown suits are usually suitable for daytime events. You should have lighter colored suits for events that simply ask "suits and ties for men." It might be beneficial to consider getting custom clothing made if you go to multiple events with this dress code. Particularly for events like interviews or business trips, where you need to dress to impress -- especially since 47% of managers in 2016 said their employees dressed "too casually."

Business/Dress Casual: In this case, jackets are preferred, but not required. The most common dress casual outfit consists of a blazer with gray slacks or khakis. A more casual option could consist of sweaters or dress shirts with slacks or khakis. Remember, just because the word "casual" is included, doesn't mean you can arrive wearing sweatpants. It's always better to be too dressed up than too dressed down.

Casual Dress: Casual dress leaves it pretty much up to you to decide what you want to wear. While you have free range of your outfit choice, it's still preferred that you at least wear something nice to the social event. At the very least, you should look like you put some effort into your outfit to show respect to your host.

Mens dress codes can be complicated to understand, especially in this day and age where there seem to be fewer social events requiring a certain dress code. But it's still important to understand in case you get invited to an important event.
